Understanding unarranged overdrafts
An unarranged overdraft happens when a payment takes your account balance below zero without an arranged overdraft in place. While we try to decline any payments that would do this, some can still leave your account.
How an Unarranged Overdraft Happens There are a few types of payments that can still be processed even if you don't have enough funds. These include:
Offline transactions: These payments are processed without connecting to us at the time, so we can't reject them. Examples include in-flight purchases and pay-at-pump fuel.
Pre-authorised payments: These are delayed charges for a purchase you've already authorised, like car hire or hotel bills.
